The short answer

How do I make a quiz or practice questions to test my studying?

Tell the builder chat the subject, the class and how many questions you want, and it makes a quiz. You can also make a page that shows the score by itself when you answer. If you give the chat the book section, the questions come from exactly that reading, so they stay within the syllabus. Check the answers yourself, because AI can write wrong answers with confidence.

There is only one way to know if you have studied

Reading a book and remembering what is in it are two different things.

After three hours of reading, you feel you have understood everything, then in the exam hall you cannot remember a single thing. The reason is simple: reading is recognising, and an exam is recalling, and the two are not the same.

Asking yourself questions is the only way to find out beforehand where the gaps are.

Give it the book section

This is the most important point, and most people do not do it.

If you say "give ten questions from class nine physics", you get generic questions, not questions from your book. AI does not know the chapters of Bangladeshi textbooks by heart, and when it pretends to, it gets things wrong.

But if you take a photo of the book page or type out the text and give it to the chat, and then ask, the questions come from exactly that reading.

Example: "Read this section and make ten MCQs, each with four options, and give the answers separately below. At class nine level."

Which kind of question, and when

TypeWhat it testsWhen it helps
MCQRecognising and quick recallRevision before the exam
One-word answerDefinitions and factsThe memorising part
Short questionUnderstandingAfter finishing the reading
Explanation questionReal understandingIn a hard chapter

The last one is the most useful and the least used. It is while answering a "why does this happen" question that you find out whether you have really understood the thing.

Check the answers

We need to be honest about this.

AI writes wrong answers with just as much confidence as it writes right ones. Mistakes are more common with numbers, dates and facts that are specific to Bangladesh.

So if you are a teacher, check the answers against the book before you print the question paper. And if you are a student, if the answers match, good. If not, open the book and see which is right. Do not treat AI's answer as the final word.

Why this caution is needed is explained in detail in the post on when AI gets things wrong.

A quiz page that shows the score

If you want more than a plain list of questions and answers, that can be done too.

Tell the chat to make a page where the questions come one by one, it says right or wrong when you choose an answer, and at the end it shows the total score.

This helps in three places: practice for coaching students, in a school class, and when studying alone with nobody to ask you questions.

Once the page is made, you can put it on your own site, and then you only have to give the link to the students. The steps for adding a page to a site are in the post on a blog and pages on your site.

What saves a teacher the most time

Several sets of the same questions. If you want different sets for students sitting next to each other, that is done in a few seconds.

Arranged from easy to hard. If you ask it to arrange the same questions from easy to hard, the question paper turns out better.

A separate answer sheet. If you want the questions on one page and the answers on another, printing is easier.

Making a PDF. If you make the question paper into a PDF, it is easier to print and send, and the rules for making a Bangla PDF are in the post on Bangla PDF.

A habit for the student

Right after reading, make questions and test yourself, then three days later, the same questions again.

The ones you get wrong the second time are really your weak places. A mistake the first time is normal, and a mistake on the third day is a warning sign.

The post on AI in studying covers where AI helps and where it hurts.

To make exam question papers, see the question maker page: MCQ and creative (structured) questions, with answers.

If you want to build one yourself, open the quiz competition page.

Questions and answers

Will the questions come from my book? They will, if you give the book section to the chat. If you only say the chapter name, you get generic questions, because AI does not know Bangladeshi textbooks by heart. If you give a photo of the page, the questions come from that reading.

Are the answers right? Not always, and this is the most important warning. AI writes wrong answers with confidence, especially with numbers and facts specific to Bangladesh. Check against the book before printing.

Can I make a quiz that shows the score? Yes. Tell the chat to make a page that says right or wrong when you choose an answer and shows the total score at the end. You can put the page on your own site and give the link to the students.

Can I get several different sets from the same reading? Yes, and it is the most useful thing for students sitting side by side. Say it once and several sets come, and you can ask for a separate answer sheet for each.

Which kind of question helps most? The "why does this happen" explanation questions, because it is while answering that you find out whether you have really understood. MCQs are good for quick revision, but they do not test understanding.

Can I get the question paper in a printable form? Yes. You can ask for the questions on one page and the answers on a separate page, and if you make the whole thing a PDF it is easier to print and send.

How do I use it as a student? Right after reading, make questions and test yourself, then three days later the same questions again. The mistakes the second time are your real weak places.

Is this a kind of cheating? Testing your own studying is not cheating, it is part of studying. The problem comes when you have AI write the answers and hand those in, because then no learning happens.

In short

  • Give the book section to the chat, and the questions come from that reading
  • MCQs are for revision, explanation questions are for testing understanding
  • Check the answers, because AI writes wrong ones with confidence too
  • A quiz page that shows the score can be made and put on a site
  • For teachers, several sets and a separate answer sheet save the most time
  • Testing again after three days catches the real gaps
