How do I remove a photo background, on my phone, without an app?
Add the product photo with the picture button beside the chat box, then press "Remove the background". Within seconds the photo comes back in the chat with the background gone and the item exactly as you shot it. For a new scene behind it, write the scene in the box and press "Put a new scene behind it". Both are free, within the day's pictures.
Three steps to remove a background
- Add the photo in the chat: Press the picture button beside the chat box and pick the photo from your gallery. Once it is added, two new buttons appear beside the box.
- Press "Remove the background": This button only clears the background. For a new scene, write the scene in the box first, then press "Put a new scene behind it".
- Download it from the chat: The edited photo arrives in the chat within seconds. Download it and use it in your catalogue, page or site.
A messy background on a product photo costs sales
Most people who sell online shoot their photos at home: a bedsheet, a stained wall, a bucket in the corner. The item is good, but the customer's eye catches on what is behind it, and the page looks less professional.
Background remover apps either want money, stamp a watermark, or make you cut the item out with a finger. Here one button is enough, nothing to install, and not a single thread of the item changes.
Removing and changing a background: two different jobs
- Remove the background: keeps the actual item exactly as it is and only clears what is behind it. The saree border, the shirt buttons, the print on the packet all stay. For sales photos this is the safe one.
- Put a new scene behind it: the AI redraws the whole picture from the scene in the box, keeping the item. It looks lovely, but fine patterns, printed words or logos may change a little.
- Which when: for catalogue and price photos, where the customer buys exactly what they see, remove the background. For festival posts, mood pictures or ad backdrops, use a new scene.
How to get a white background, and where it helps
Press "Remove the background" and the messy room goes, leaving the item on a clean ground; that is how white-background catalogue photos are made. Put such photos side by side on a white website, a Daraz or Facebook shop, or a price list, and the whole shop looks consistent and tidy.
The edited photo comes out with its long side within 1,024 pixels. That is plenty for Facebook, WhatsApp and a site, but small for printing a big banner. If the photo ever shows a see-through ground somewhere, place it on a white poster or page.
Shoot it this way and the background comes off cleanly
- Keep the item and background colours apart. A white panjabi against a white wall makes it hard to tell where the cloth ends and the wall begins. Dark cloth behind a white item, light behind a dark one.
- The whole item in the frame. If a bag handle or a shoe tip leaves the frame, that part does not come back.
- Window light, not flash. Flash throws hard shadows, and a shadow is often taken as part of the item.
- One item per photo. Three cosmetics jars together can confuse which one to keep; shoot them one at a time.
- Do not hold it in your hand. The hand stays as part of the item. Put it on a table or a hanger.
"Edit my photo": what is not done here
On your own photo, two jobs are done here: removing the background and putting a new scene behind it. Brightening or beautifying a face, removing spots, fixing an old torn photo, making a blurred photo HD, removing someone or adding someone: none of these.
For a passport or office document photo, the background can be removed, but there is no crop to passport size here, and official photos have their own rules. A studio photo is the safe choice; ask the office you are submitting to for its rules.
What to do with the photo once the background is gone
- Product photos on your site: in the live site's site manager, open "Text & images", upload the new photo in the picture's slot and save; no AI and no Token. No shop site yet? See the online shop page.

Both buttons are free and take no Token. Each edit does count against the day's free AI pictures: up to 20 a day, a little fewer on a very busy day. Press more than a few in a minute and you will be asked to wait a minute. Only photos you added yourself can be edited, and your account must be verified.

If I ask it to edit my photo, will it make my face look better?
No: changing a face or body, removing spots, fixing old photos or sharpening blurred ones is not done here. On your own photo, only removing the background and putting a new scene behind it work.
How many backgrounds can I remove in a day?
