How to make a result sheet, in three steps

  1. Write the subjects and mark rules: Class, exam name, the subjects, full marks and pass mark for each, and the institution name for the card. Student names go in later, inside the app.
  2. Enter the marks: Marks by subject beside each name and roll. The total, percentage, grade, GPA and merit order appear at once; no calculator needed.
  3. Check, then print: Check a few students by hand. Then print the whole sheet or each student's marksheet, and download a CSV as a backup.

The app carries this scale: 80 to 100 A+ (5.00), 70 to 79 A (4.00), 60 to 69 A- (3.50), 50 to 59 B (3.00), 40 to 49 C (2.00), 33 to 39 D (1.00) and below 33 F (0.00). An F in any one subject makes the overall GPA F.

If your institution works differently, say so first: a different pass mark, separate passes for the creative and MCQ parts, or a fourth subject counted another way. Without that, the app uses this common scale, so check two or three students by hand before the first result goes out.

Result card design and teacher comments

The paper a parent takes home is the result card: each student's own marksheet. At the top, the institution, the exam, the student's name, class and roll; in the middle, marks and grades by subject; at the bottom, GPA, merit position and places for the class teacher's and head teacher's signatures. For a logo on the card, give the builder the picture.

Teacher comments on a result card take the longest. Write in the chat "give 5 short encouraging comments for students with a GPA between 3 and 4, mentioning weak maths", and it lays out comments; adjust them student by student.

Making a result sheet on a phone, and where the data lives

The whole app runs in a phone browser, so marks can be entered from a phone. But they stay in the browser of the phone or computer where you typed them; another teacher opening the link on their phone sees an empty sheet. So let one person enter every mark, or have each teacher send their subject's marks to that person on paper or by message.

Clearing the browser's data clears the marks too. Download the CSV after each session; the file opens in Excel or Google Sheets.

Think before putting a result sheet online

Publish the app and anyone with the link can open it, but the marks you entered will not be in their browser, because they live in yours. So this is not an online result search for parents, and it has nothing to do with board exam results. To share results, print the marksheets, or put the merit list up as a notice on your institution's site.

How is GPA worked out on a result sheet?

Each subject's marks give a grade point: 80 to 100 gives 5, 70 to 79 gives 4, and so on down to 0 below 33. The subjects' points together make the overall GPA, and an F in any subject makes it F. If your institution's rule differs, say so at the start.

Can I make a result sheet without Excel?

Yes. Enter marks in the app and the sums are done, with no formulas to write. If you need it, download the CSV, open it in Excel or Google Sheets and arrange it further your own way.

Can each student's result card be printed separately?

Yes. Each student's marksheet can be printed on its own. Print one card first to check the size and signature spaces, then print the rest.

Can another teacher enter marks from their own phone?

In this app the marks stay in the browser where they were entered, so another phone shows it empty. Let one teacher enter all marks and have the others send theirs to that teacher.

What should a teacher write as a comment on a result card?

Short, specific, encouraging lines: where the student did well and where a little more attention is needed. Give the chat the GPA and the weak subject and it drafts a few; change them for each student.

Does making a result sheet cost money?
