Design a logo from your shop's name, without a designer

The short answer

How do I make a logo for my business, and where will it be used?

Tell the builder chat, in your own words, your shop's name, what you sell and the look you want, and it makes a logo. A free account can make 20 pictures a day, so you can look at several looks and choose. A logo goes at the top of a site, on a business card, in a Facebook page picture and on a packet sticker, so a plain logo that is still recognised when small works best.

A wrong idea about logos

Many people think a logo is a work of art: the more complex, the better.

In fact it is the opposite. A logo has one job, and that is being recognised. A logo that is still recognised when it sits small in the round Facebook picture, in the corner of a business card, on a packet sticker, everywhere, is a good logo.

This is exactly why the logos of the world's big brands are so plain. A complex logo looks blurry when small, and a blurry logo is not remembered.

Decide three things before you ask

If you go to the chat and write "make a logo", what comes is not anyone's shop logo, it is the logo of any shop.

If you tell it three things the result is different:

The name. Exactly as you want it written, along with whether in Bangla or English.

What you sell. The logo of a cloth shop and of a sweet shop should not look the same.

The feeling you want. Old-time or modern; soft colours or deep. One line is enough.

An example prompt, written in Bangla for the builder. It says: "Make a logo for a tailor's shop called Rahima Tailors, the name in Bangla, a small needle-and-thread mark, deep blue and white, plain."

রহিমা টেইলার্স নামে একটা দর্জির দোকানের লোগো বানাও, বাংলায় নাম, সুই-সুতার ছোট একটা চিহ্ন, গাঢ় নীল আর সাদা, সাদামাটা।

Look at a few and choose

Do not stop at the first one that comes.

Even a free account can make 20 pictures a day, so you can ask for three or four different styles and look at them side by side. This chance to choose before printing is the real benefit, because if you ask a designer for three samples you get three times the bill.

While choosing, run one test: look at the picture small. If at the size of a fingernail on the phone screen you can tell what it is, the logo will work. If not, ask for less complexity.

A warning about the writing

The AI that makes pictures does not always write Bangla perfectly. Letters run together, the matra (the line on top) gets cut, that kind of thing.

So two tricks help:

Make the mark without text, and put the name in later. Make the mark with AI, and type the name in separately on the site or card. That keeps the spelling exact.

Read what came. Before you send it for printing, check the spelling of your own name letter by letter. If a wrong spelling is caught on five hundred printed stickers, it cannot be fixed.

Where the logo will be used

PlaceHow it fits
Top of the siteWide, with the writing
Facebook page pictureRound, so only the mark
Visiting cardSmall, so clear
Packet stickerMust be recognised even in one colour
Top of the receiptMust work in black and white too

Many people do not think of the last two, and that is where most logos fall apart. A beautiful logo with a colour gradient becomes a grey smudge when printed on a black and white receipt.

So say this once when you build: "Also give me how it looks in one colour, on a white background."

When you need HD

Ordinary pictures are free, and for a site or Facebook that is enough.

If you build with HD on, the fine details come out clearer. Each HD picture costs 2,500 Token, and it has no connection with the day's free count. But HD means clear, not big: an HD picture too is at most 1,440 pixels on its long side. On a business card or a small sticker that works well.

On a signboard or a big banner, any picture stretched bigger looks blurry. For that, make a logo page at print size in the builder, where the name sits in the real font, and the download button downloads a large-size picture. For viewing on a screen the free picture is enough.

The logo is done, then what

A logo alone does nothing. When it stays the same on the site, on the card and on the packet, people start to recognise it.

So after you choose, keep the file carefully, and use that one everywhere. Three different logos in three places means having no logo at all.

For the rest of your shop's pictures you can look at the post on posters and banners, and for what to put on Facebook, the post on Facebook posts.

When the name and colours are settled, go straight to the chat from the logo page, and you get three styles of logo at once.

If you want to make one yourself, open the page for a logo from a name.

Questions and answers

Does making a logo cost money? Ordinary pictures are free, and even a free account can make up to 20 a day. If you want HD for clearer fine details, each one costs 2,500 Token, and that is outside the day's free count.

Does Bangla writing come out perfectly? Not always. The picture AI can make mistakes in Bangla letters. The safe way is to make the mark with AI and put the name in separately, and to check the spelling letter by letter before you send it for printing.

How many samples should I look at? At least three or four different styles. You do not need to stop at the first, because 20 pictures a day can be made. When you look side by side, it becomes clear which one goes with your business.

How do I tell a good logo? Look at it small. If at the size of a fingernail on the phone screen you can tell what it is, the logo will work. Look at it once in black and white too, because a receipt and a sticker have no colour.

Must I use the same logo everywhere? Yes, and this is the most important habit. If the same logo is on the site, the card, Facebook and the packet, people start to recognise it. If there are three different ones in three places, nobody recognises any.

Which one do I need for printing on a signboard? The file downloaded from the print-size logo page, because any picture, even HD, looks blurry when stretched bigger; the name sits in the real font on that page, so it stays sharp at a big size. Before you give it to the print shop, ask them how big a file they need.

Who owns the logo? What you made, you can use for your business. But there is more to know about the legal side of AI-made pictures, and that is in our other post on copyright.

Can I carry on with my old logo? Yes, and often that is better. Think twice before you change a mark that customers have already come to recognise. You need a new logo only when the old one cannot be recognised at a small size or the business itself has changed.

In short

  • Tell the name, what you sell and the look you want, these three
  • Look at three or four samples and choose, 20 pictures a day are free
  • Check it small and in black and white, that is where a logo is tested
  • AI can make mistakes in Bangla writing, putting the name in separately is safe
  • HD means clear, not big; for a signboard use the logo page at print size
  • One logo everywhere, or nobody recognises it
