How do I design a halkhata card and a Pohela Boishakh poster on my phone?
Write the shop's name, the halkhata date and time, and two lines of invitation in Bangla. The card comes out in a real Bengali font in Boishakh red and white; send it to customers on WhatsApp with one press, or download the PNG for a press to print. Three steps to a halkhata card
- Write the invitation: The shop's name, the proprietor's name if you like, the halkhata date in Bangla and English, the time, and a polite two-line invitation.
- Dress it in Boishakh colours: When the card appears, say: "add a red border", "alpana pattern at the bottom", "make the shop name bigger". Change it as often as you need.
- Send or print: The share button opens the phone's share menu; send the picture to customers on WhatsApp. For paper cards, download the PNG and give it to a press.
A halkhata card keeps a relationship; it is not a demand for dues
Halkhata is the day a shop closes the old year's ledger and opens a new one. The shopkeeper invites regular customers, offers sweets, and customers settle what they owe as they can. So the card's language is respectful, not pressing: not "pay your dues", but "we hope for your presence at our new ledger".
No more sitting at the press to have cards made, then reprinting over a spelling mistake. Make the card on your phone in the shop, and give the press just the file if you need prints.
What to write on a halkhata card
- "Shubho Halkhata" at the top with the Bangla year. The Bangla year 1434 begins on 14 April 2027.
- Two lines of invitation. Something like "your kind presence at our new halkhata on the first day of the new year is sincerely hoped for". If you are stuck, ask the chat for three samples.
- Date and time. "1 Boishakh 1434, Wednesday 14 April, 10 am to 8 pm". Give the weekday and time yourself; many shops hold halkhata on another day of Boishakh, so write your own day.
- Shop name, address and proprietor. "Messrs", "Prop." exactly as on the signboard.
- A place for the recipient's name. If one card is printed for everyone, leave "Janab" and a blank line at the bottom to write names by hand. On WhatsApp, change the name and download a separate card for each customer.
Never print the amount owed on a halkhata card
A card passes through many hands, and on WhatsApp even more. A customer's balance printed on a card shames them and costs the shop the relationship. Keep the figure in the ledger and show it to the customer when they come.

Pohela Boishakh posters: new year greetings and Boishakhi offers
In Bangladesh Pohela Boishakh is 14 April every year, a public holiday. A shop needs two kinds of poster. One is only a greeting: "Shubho Noboborsho 1434" large, the shop's name below. The other is a Boishakhi offer: what is discounted and for how long, with figures you type yourself. Do not mix the two on one poster.
Boishakh's colours are red and white, with yellow. Text-free patterns like alpana, an ektara, a dhol, a kula, clay pots or kites can go behind as an AI picture; the words sit on top in a font.
Sizes for halkhata cards and Boishakh posters
- A halkhata card for WhatsApp: square or slightly tall, so the whole card shows at once in a phone chat.
- A printed card: for a small card that fits an envelope, ask the press for their card size and give that size to the builder. For larger prints, A5 or A4.
- A Boishakhi Facebook post: square 1:1; tall 9:16 for a story.
- A banner in front of the shop: give the size in feet, and ask the print shop how large the file must be. The rest is on the banner page.
